New Jersey’s artificial intelligence ecosystem continues to take shape—and this week offered another glimpse at just how broad that opportunity may become.
On September 15, founders, investors, corporate leaders and members of the state’s innovation community gathered at Grounds For Sculpture in Hamilton for the NJ AI Hub Accelerator Batch 2 Selection Day, powered by Plug and Play.
The program featured pitches from 20 startups seeking to move through the accelerator’s next batch, along with networking and a presentation of enterprise AI survey findings.
What stood out was not simply the number of companies, but the diversity of problems they are tackling.

AI Moves Beyond the Chatbot
Much of the public conversation around artificial intelligence still centers on large language models and generative AI. The companies presenting in Hamilton demonstrated how quickly AI is moving into specialized, real-world applications.
Several startups focused on healthcare and life sciences—a natural fit given New Jersey’s longstanding strength in the sector.
Hill Research is applying multi-agent AI to clinical-trial data workflows, from protocol design through FDA submission, while CoReason is building an AI-powered evidence-generation platform for life-sciences companies. GlucoSynq turns continuous glucose-monitor data into actionable clinical insights, and Robossis is developing robotic technology for orthopedic trauma and long-bone fracture repair.
The second group of presenting companies extended that healthcare presence. Rightview is automating clinical-trial site operations; SyzOnc combines human-tissue models and AI for oncology drug discovery; PONS is applying AI to ultrasound diagnostics and monitoring outside hospitals; and Vinea is using technology to streamline continuing medical education and compliance.
But healthcare was only part of the story.

From AI Security to Robots at Your Front Door
The cohort also illustrated how rapidly the AI stack is expanding.
OppyAI is focused on privacy and security through end-to-end neural encryption, while Presential addresses sensitive data by transforming personally identifiable information before it reaches external infrastructure. SMARTHAUS is developing what it describes as “Mathematically Governed AI,” aimed at establishing provable boundaries around AI-system behavior.
Meanwhile, Vault Robotics is developing autonomous robots to handle the last leg of package delivery—from a vehicle to a customer’s door. Materium Technologies is applying AI to the formulation of high-performance thin films, while PBX Energy is targeting energy procurement and analytics for high-load users including data centers.
Other companies tackled software deployment, payments, workforce transformation, education and the growing demand for training data. SkillsBridge, for example, combines work redesign and skills development around human-AI collaboration, while Kled has created a marketplace where people can be compensated for content licensed to AI companies for model training.
Building an AI Ecosystem in New Jersey
Perhaps the larger takeaway from Selection Day was what happens when these companies are viewed together.
An AI ecosystem isn't built around a single breakthrough company or technology. It requires startups, researchers, universities, investors, corporations, talent and customers, and repeated opportunities for those groups to interact.
That is what makes programs like the NJ AI Hub Accelerator important.
Selection Day brought founders and builders together with investors and innovation leaders, with the formal pitching followed by a networking lunch designed to continue those conversations.
For New Jersey, the opportunity is bigger than simply producing more AI startups. The state has the potential to connect AI with industries where it already has significant depth- from pharmaceuticals and healthcare to financial services, telecommunications, logistics, advanced manufacturing and an increasingly important data-center economy.
The 20 companies pitching at Grounds For Sculpture represented very different technologies and markets. Collectively, however, they pointed toward the same larger trend:
AI is moving from experimentation into infrastructure, products and businesses - and New Jersey has an opportunity to be one of the places where those businesses are built.
