More than 100 students, educators, parents, and innovation leaders gathered on June 7 at Cedar Hill Preparatory School for the inaugural AI Prompt-athon, an event designed to introduce students to the power of artificial intelligence while encouraging them to explore meaningful solutions to challenges facing their generation.
Hosted by Cedar Hill Prep and led by Head of School Nandini Menon, the event brought together students from diverse grade levels and backgrounds to develop presentations, videos, and concepts demonstrating how AI can be used responsibly to improve lives, strengthen communities, and create positive social impact.
Unlike traditional hackathons focused primarily on coding, the AI Prompt-athon emphasized creativity, critical thinking, communication, and responsible AI use. Students were challenged to identify problems, leverage AI tools for research and ideation, and present compelling solutions to a panel of judges and community leaders.
The event reflected a growing recognition that AI literacy is becoming an essential skill for the next generation.
"Artificial intelligence will shape nearly every profession our students enter," said Nandini Menon, Head of Cedar Hill Preparatory School. "Our goal is not simply to teach students how to use AI tools, but how to think critically, act ethically, and apply these technologies to solve meaningful problems. The creativity and maturity demonstrated today exceeded all expectations."
Throughout the day, students explored topics including online safety, mental wellness, digital citizenship, misinformation, collaboration, and emerging technologies. Their presentations showcased not only technical curiosity but also a deep understanding of the social challenges facing young people in an increasingly connected world.
Student Teams Present Thoughtful Solutions
Several standout teams earned recognition for the quality of their ideas, presentations, and potential real-world impact.
Cyberbullying Prevention in the Digital Age
This team explored how AI-powered monitoring, education, and intervention tools could help identify harmful online behavior before it escalates. Their presentation highlighted the importance of balancing safety, privacy, and student well-being while creating healthier digital environments for young people.
Unmute
Focused on helping students find their voice, Unmute proposed an AI-enabled platform designed to encourage communication, self-expression, and emotional support. The concept aimed to reduce isolation and create safe channels for students who may be reluctant to speak up about personal challenges.
Tech Titans
The Tech Titans team examined how emerging technologies can be leveraged to solve everyday problems while preparing students for future careers. Their project emphasized innovation, collaboration, and practical applications of AI across education, business, and society.
Reflect
Reflect addressed the growing importance of mental wellness among students. The team envisioned an AI-assisted journaling and self-reflection platform that could help young people better understand their emotions, track personal growth, and develop healthier habits while maintaining user privacy and trust.
Safe Harbor
Safe Harbor focused on creating safer digital and physical spaces for students. The project explored how AI could assist in identifying risks, connecting individuals with resources, and fostering supportive communities where students feel secure and empowered.
Saachi & Shika
Saachi and Shika delivered a thoughtful presentation centered on responsible AI use and the importance of human-centered innovation. Their work emphasized empathy, ethical decision-making, and ensuring technology remains a force for inclusion and positive impact.

Building Future Innovators
The AI Prompt-athon highlighted the growing role that experiential learning can play in preparing students for a rapidly changing future. By combining creativity, communication, entrepreneurship, and emerging technologies, participants gained hands-on experience applying AI to real-world problems.
James Barrood, Founder and CEO of Innovation+ and leader of INNOVATE100, praised both the students and organizers.
"What stood out most wasn't the technology—it was the thoughtfulness behind the ideas," said Barrood. "These students demonstrated curiosity, empathy, and a willingness to tackle complex challenges. That's exactly the mindset that drives innovation. If this event is any indication, the future of New Jersey's innovation ecosystem is in very good hands."
Menon added that the event represents the beginning of a larger effort to build AI literacy and innovation skills throughout the student community.
"We want students to see themselves not simply as consumers of technology, but as creators, leaders, and problem-solvers," she said. "Today's participants showed what becomes possible when young people are given the tools, support, and confidence to imagine a better future."
As artificial intelligence continues to reshape education, business, and society, events like the Cedar Hill Prep AI Prompt-athon demonstrate that the next generation is eager to engage thoughtfully with these technologies—and perhaps even lead the way.
