40 and flourishing
40s are the new 30s, if the run of celebrity baby bumps and athletic comebacks is any indication, Axios' Natalie Daher.
👶 Anne Hathaway, 43, has turned her press tour for "The Odyssey" into a maternity fashion moment, cradling her baby bump for her third child on red carpets from London to Paris.
Natalie Portman, 45, and Aubrey Plaza, 42, are right there with her — both expecting babies of their own and elegantly displaying their bellies.
🎾 Serena Williams, 44, made a surprise return from retirement to compete in singles at Wimbledon this summer — her first Grand Slam singles appearance in years.
🏆 LeBron James, 41, just wrapped his 23rd NBA season and is still averaging more than 20 points a game. He broke the league's all-time record for games played this year, and as a free agent he's still got more to come.
🌟 The big picture: We're living longer, and there's less pressure to peak in our 20s and settle into place in our 30s. The 40s are no longer middle age — in fact, they're "prime time," bestselling author Emma Rosenblum writes for The Wall Street Journal today (gift link).
And it's not just for the famous.
🌱 Rosenblum writes: "My 40-something friends are training for marathons, opening new businesses, dating, having babies and changing careers. There's not as much pressure to have it all figured out by 40."
That's especially true as more young people delay conventional milestones like marriage, homeownership and having kids.
🥂 The bottom line: 40s aren't nearly the finish line anymore. Think of them like a second wind.
